Looking for more readers this week? Start here!
Share your Substack, find similar writers, and swap recommendations to reach new readers.
Hey!
We’re going to try something new this week to help you find and connect with other writers, and I’d love for you to join in.
Lately, I’ve been hearing from a lot of you that growth has slowed. You’re publishing consistently, putting in the work, and still not seeing the same bump in subscribers you might have enjoyed earlier this year or in 2024.
It’s a frustrating feeling. But one of the best things about Substack is that we’re not alone here. We can always help each other grow!
With that in mind, I’ve started a thread in the Substack Chat to make it easier for you to discover like-minded writers and start collaborations that benefit each of you.
Step 1: Share your details
In the thread, write a quick post including:
The name of your Substack
The 2–3 topics you write about
The type of writers/Substacks you’d like to collaborate with (this could be similar niches, overlapping audiences etc).
Step 2: Find your matches
Once you’ve shared your information, read through what others have posted (or if you’re early to this, come back later and do so).
Look for writers whose work is at least broadly similar to yours, something you think your audience might genuinely enjoy.
Step 3: Connect & collaborate
Send them a DM or reply directly in the thread. Suggest a simple collaboration:
Swapping recommendations in your newsletters
Sharing each other’s work on social media
Writing guest posts for one another
Giving feedback on each other’s ideas or drafts
It’s simple, quick, and will help everyone grow.
And a quick note on recommendations: one person will almost always give more subscribers than they get back. That’s normal, and it doesn’t make the swap a waste of time. The right recommendation can lead to long-term readers.
Let’s see how many connections we can make!
